St-Servaas Basiliek or Grimbergen Abbey has suffered a lot these last few centuries. The story is interesting. To tell the whole historical story of the Abbey, “projection mapping” was chosen as technical and creative tool
Without any exact plan of the building, Mojuice’s Maarten Francq scanned the building and composed a workable 3D object for content creation and visualisation.
Projection on this 1000sqm surface of the building was done using a vertical blended widescreen composed of 2 dual stacked Barco HDQ-40 projectors. (total 4x HDQ40)
Barco’s great powerhorse with enormous light output.
One interesting projector detail was its position. Projectors could only be installed at the far outer side of the Abbey, so completely out of axis. And of course not physically placed at the desired projection spot.
Resolution 1920 x 2800
One d3 Pro 4×2 mediaserver provided flexible mapping, playout and alignment.
A rather small, but nevertheless exciting project. With very quick setup and alignment time (+-2.0 hrs)!
